Week 37 – The Monster Is Me

I have been wanting to do this post for a while.

My friend Brian McFadden is the drummer for the amazing NYC based band Someday Static. They just released their album on iTunes and I fell in love with it and the lyrics. The one that stood out to me most was a song called Monster. It was the most visual one for me as I take many low-key photos that would have been perfect for lyric illustrations.

And so I put together this little booklet of lyrics and images accompanying them. They are supposed to be blurry and raw. Apologies for any aesthetic flaws, I am still learning as this was done in InDesign and its a hate/love/hate/hate relationship with us.

This was designed in the simple style of children’s books. I thought of doing this as a movie first but this story is in a way, moving. I looked up how some children’s books look and they usually have a simple graphic element on a page and then some text. Perfect for lyrics when they are taken apart by lines. Then I thought, what if monsters had bedtime stories? What would they look like?

Perhaps its no coincidence that my favorite animated movie is Monsters INC.

Below are the photos from the album if you cannot display them above as well as the awesome song itself.

PS: Happy Halloween
